Tony’s story with Italian cooking started long before STS was a dream. Trained as a professional chef, Tony has called the UK home since 1995 after living in Bari, Italy, for most of his childhood. He has spent almost 3 decades building his craft in professional kitchens, mostly Italian. Year after year, he has mastered the techniques passed down through generations of Italian cooking, balancing the simplicity and flavour that Italian food is built on. After a lifetime of cooking in other people’s kitchens, he decided to begin a new journey and create STS Italian Deli with the help of his wife Sandra and daughter Sandy and now uses the recipes he spent 30 years perfecting.
Sandra has worked at the front of house in fine dining restaurants since 2005, learning first hand what it means to make a guest feel welcome. In 2013, she left the industry to work as a gymnastics coach, a role she loved for the better part of a decade. In 2021, she returned to her roots in hospitality alongside her husband at STS. She now brings that same fine-dining eye for guest experience to a much cosier setting. She keeps the deli’s social media alive with daily specials and makes sure every customer feels like they have walked into a home, not just a shop.
Sandy has helped build STS alongside her parents while completing her university studies since 2021, contributing to marketing and had a hand in developing popular menu items, including the pistachio croissant. She has now left to pursue her career in the physiotherapy industry but is still a familiar face at the deli – popping in to catching up with regular customers and, as always, bossing her parents around.
Together, Tony’s professional culinary mastery and Sandra’s instinct for genuine hospitality are the heart of STS – one shapes what is on the plate, and the other shapes how it feels to be there.
Our idea was simple: to build a space that is friendly & welcoming where you can feel at home. Everything we offer is home-made, prepared with care, passion and love using the finest ingredients & classic home-made Italian recipes. STS Italian Deli has something for everyone, including those who wish to have a furry friend alongside them in their dog-friendly space.
